the law-abiding lived in complete peace and harmony. They did not fear in the dark of night because there was no evil allowed to take root in the civilian spheres.
But that same system made it impossible to hide his attraction for Tova from Janus. His fellow Hunter viewed each encounter with Tova, and it was igniting hunger in him as well. Sharing her was the best solution.
“Tova might enjoy the festival. I think I’ll bring her tonight.”
Janus raised hungry eyes from the female in question. Hawk didn’t say anything more. Between them, it was understood and Tova would adjust.

Hawk moved into her workspace from the front door. That was something Tova knew he did for her sake, a sort of peace offering. He was a Hunter and was lowering his guard enough to let her see him coming. While simple, she could not overlook that he made the effort for her comfort. It was a concession to her demands.
A tiny twist of heat went through her heart because it had been so very long since she could recall anyone doing something for her due to her wishes. He watched her as she chewed on her lip and stared at him. A corner of his mouth slowly rose as his eyes simmered with amusement.
“Ah, Tova, you tempt me to grant your demands. If for no other reward than to see your eyes brighten.”
She blushed. Tova felt her cheeks heat as Hawk moved towards her. Her nipples tingled as she recalled how intensely hot his mouth was on her lips. He stopped and considered her worktable. He picked up one of the celebration dishes and pulled the sterile wrapping off the top. The sweet scent of melios filled the air and her stomach grumbled. She could not help but enjoy today’s tasting requirement. It had been so long since she had indulged in melios!
“Festival begins tonight. You have earned the right to enjoy it.”
A smile curved her lips as she absorbed his praise. The day had been filled with many tasks but the ache in the center of her shoulders seemed unimportant compared to the delight that everyone would have over eating the sweets she had molded. She lifted her hand for the melios and Hawk chuckled as he shook his head.
Hawk held the little green ball between his fingertips and rolled it. Her eyes strayed to his hand and the expert way he handled the soft confection. There was so much control in him that she shivered as she considered having his fingers on her nipples once more.
“Eat it from my hand, Tova.”
Should she? The wicked idea formed in her head as she watched the way Hawk waited on her response. Controlling their moments of touching was addictive. Leaning forward, she bit a small portion off one side of the confection, careful to avoid touching his skin with her lips. Straightening up, she grinned as Hawk frowned at her.
“Why are you cross? I did as you asked.”
    “Kiss me.”
His voice cracked with demand but Tova lifted a single finger and waved it back and forth. The tray hit the table and Hawk moved before the sound registered in her ears. So quickly she was wrapped in his embrace again, his arms binding her to his frame. Tova was discovering a taste for his strength that grew each time she sampled more of it.
Addiction appeared to be her newest burden.
“And I gave you a second command. Kiss me.”
His fingers traced her lips, stroking the tender skin gently as he watched her face. She shivered as the small touch made sensation ripple down her body, raising goose bumps as it went. A little sound of enjoyment rose from her as her hands spread open on his chest.
“I enjoy touching you, Tova.” His fingers traced her lower lip again and then trailed down the smooth skin of her throat. He flicked the first button open on the front of her robe and watched for her reaction. His fingers stroked the newly bared skin. Her own hands had not felt as good last night. There was a strength in his hands that she could not mimic but the control he tempered it with was what truly made her crave more of it.
