matter. He hasn’t even kissed me, or tried to kiss me. I don’t think he’s as into me as you think.”
“You really need more experience. That is his way of getting you to want him more. And from the looks of it, it’s working like a charm. Just wait, when the moment comes and he does kiss you, it’s gonna knock your panties off.”
Chapter 7
“Ginger!” Malcom exclaimed when Macy and I walked into her parents ’ house. He gave me a tight hug and a quick kiss on the cheek.
Macy was the youngest and only girl of the Frankel clan. Malcolm was the one closet in age to us, being only two years older. Her other two brothers, Michael and Martin, were in their mid-thirties. It was a running joke in the family that all the kids ended up with M names. I told her it was a sign that the good doctor might be ‘the one’ since his name also started with ‘M.’ This was the first time she’d ever done that, stating before that she wanted to avoid the corniness of the double letters.
“Hello to you too, brother,” Macy said, glaring at him with her arms crossed.
“Hello, Macy. Don’t worry, I haven’t forgotten about my favorite baby sister,” he commented, walking over to hug and kiss her in the same manner.
“I ’m your only baby sister, you jerk,” she replied, giving him a playful shove.
“And that ’s why I greet my Ginger first. She never calls me names.”
Macy stuck her tongue out at him, and Malcolm gave a hearty laugh in response. Slipping his arm around my waist, he started leading us towards the living room.
“So did you just get back from somewhere or heading out to somewhere soon?” I asked.
Malcolm was an executive for a pharmaceutical company but he wasn ’t your typical looking exec. He sported a close cut line beard and instead of having a clean cut hairstyle, he wore his hair in neatly-kept dreads that he had been growing out since high school. None of the bigwigs he had to come in contact with seemed to mind his look.
Of her three brothers, Malcolm was the one that interacted with me the most over the years because of our closeness in age. I ’d had a crush on him for the longest time; he was tall, funny, and very, very good looking. And unlike the typical teenage boy who could have made fun of me in front of his friends, he was always nice. He would even flirt with me from time to time, but it was all harmless fun. I knew he never saw me as anything other than Macy’s friend, but I still enjoyed the attention.
Malcolm was fun, carefree and just as much a free spirit as Macy, which was another reason we got along so well. It was also the reason she prohibited him from ever taking things past the flirting stage with me. Malcolm didn ’t want to settle down any more than she did, and Macy refused to, in her words, ‘let his dick ruin our friendship.’ I used to wonder what it would be like to date Malcolm, but I knew it was something that was never going to happen. The one time we got close to crossing the line, he stopped.
“Gonna be heading out. Singapore, leaving on Saturday. I wasn’t about to miss Turkey Day at home.”
“So glad you could be here to ruin our holiday,” Macy said, pulling his arm off me. “And keep your hands to yourself,” she warned.
Malcolm grabbed me, making me let out a squeal of surprise. I found myself wrapped tightly in his arms. “Ginger likes it when I don’t,” he countered, winking down at me.
“Mom!” Macy yelled. “Come get your son before he ends up in the ER.”
Macy stormed off towards the kitchen and Malcolm took my hand, laughing as we followed her. This Thanksgiving scene was like others that had played out for the last few years. Since my parents moved to Greece, I ’d spent my holidays with Macy and her family. It was always fun to be around them, and it was a much better option than spending it with Dorian.
The first year Mom and Dad were gone, we tried to have family dinner together. It
