was plain for a girl’s place. Having raised a little sister, I knew this place should be packed with pretty things. Layla’s dorm was decked out like her room in my house.
“Welcome to my little house,” she said almost apologetically.
“So, baby, this is where you’ve been hiding out on me? It’s cute. Now go get your shit for at least the weekend. We can move your stuff when you’re ready.”
She raised her brow, apparently ready to argue with me, but the look changed to a smile. “I missed you too, Nate.”
Fuck, that deserved a kiss. I took her in my arms and kissed her hard and deep before pulling back to look at her face. “Let’s get your things, babe.”
I followed her to her bedroom, giving her a nice smack on her ass. I took in the bland bedroom. The room only had one six-drawer long dresser with a giant mirror and a queen-size bed. She stepped into the closet to pull out a suitcase. After helping her, I put it on the bed so she could fill that shit up. I hoped she wouldn’t want to come back here again.
While I waited, I looked at the busy dresser top and mirror. Then I caught sight of the romance-ending offender on her mirror—the card from the flower shop I’d bought the flowers from. How had Erin switched the cards before Jess got to the office? I plucked the card off and took a closer look. It was definitely from the same place. I would have to call the flower shop in the morning.
Staring at her through the mirror, I watched her move efficiently through the room. The emptiness of the entire space boggled my mind. She had to have lived there long enough to leave her touch.
“Babe, why is it so bare in here?”
She stopped packing and looked at me with a half-smile. “I guess I never felt like it was home. I don’t why, but it felt like just a place to sleep.”
I wrapped my arms around her waist, squeezing her body against my chest. Smiling down at her, I said, “Good, because it isn’t your home anymore. My home will be ours.”
“You’re lucky I missed you, Nate.” I could tell she wanted to tell me to go fuck myself, but under that “fuck you” attitude was the truth.
“Yes, I am. So damn lucky.” I squeezed her tighter before bending to taste the soft lips that I dreamed I’d never touch again.
Her phone buzzed, and she pulled away to check it. Jealousy struck me when she smiled at her phone.
    “Somebody important?” I growled.
    “My cousin.”
“Oh. Has there been anyone else since you left me?” I hadn’t bothered to ask because she’d been the only one for me, but I didn’t even know if she was single.
“No,” she admitted, shaking her head.
“Good, there’s been no one for me either. Just in case you were curious.”
She smiled brightly before closing up the suitcase, so I knew she’d wanted to know but wasn’t going to ask. She had no idea that it had been so long, I couldn’t tell her the name of the last woman I was with because I didn’t even remember.
“Do you have everything you need?” I asked.
“Just need one more thing.” She rushed into the bathroom and grabbed a shower tote bag. “Okay, now I’m ready.”
We left her apartment before I fucked her as hard and fast as I felt like doing. Once I got everything in the car, I drove off with my woman. Tucking her hand in mine, I felt tremendous relief flow through my body. I couldn’t help but twist to look at her. She turned too, and I gave her a satisfied grin that made her blush.
Kissing her hand, I whispered, “This is only the beginning of something fucking amazing.”
“Jess, I want you to know that from here on out, there’s no getting away from me. If you’ve got issues you want to throw out there, let me know and we’ll work on that shit because I’ve got a few of my own that we haven’t dealt with yet.”
I hadn’t dealt with them yet. I knew that a big part of me was just like my father. I was beyond in love with Jessica. If something happened to her, I
