“Want anything from the vending machine, Nis?”
“ Mmm …no.” Nisa glanced up from her computer screen as Ryce stood and came over to her workstation. She lifted her chin to smile at him. “I think I’m good.”
Ryce shook his head. “You haven’t eaten anything yet today.”
“You know she doesn’t eat until after the sun goes down,” Eric teased, striding forward from the back of the lab.
“Shut up, Eric.”
She glared at him as he popped a handful of chocolate candies into his mouth, thinking her best friend was right. She did work with two of the hottest scientists on the planet.
“He’s got a point, though, Nis,” Ryce said with a wry smile.
He crossed his arms, and Nisa’s gaze was drawn to the dark navy turtleneck cable sweater around his thick neck. Ryce commanded attention with his good looks, height, and build. She loved the way his deep mocha skin contrasted with his lab coat, which always seemed to strain against his broad shoulders.
“Forget it, Ryce. I’m beginning to think she’s a vampire or something. Can I offer you some blood?” Eric asked as he yanked up his sleeve and held out his arm to her.
Nisa waved him off with a snort. “There are plenty of blood samples here I’d choose first if I required hemoglobin for sustenance.”
She grinned as he
and Ryce laughed, her gaze shifting between her two colleagues.
Eric was a few inches shorter than Ryce, gorgeous with his blond hair, twinkling hazel eyes, and chiseled features. She could always count on Eric to say something sarcastic or quirky, whereas Ryce was more serious, and she loved working with both men for different reasons. The three of them made a great team.
“You two go. I’m almost done and then I will eat.”
Ryce gave her an I-don’t-believe-you look. “Promise?”
Nisa smiled touched by his concern. “Promise.” She waved him off. “Go. I’ll want you guys to help me analyze this data when you get back.”
Eric groaned. “Your type A personality is really beginning to wear me down.”
Nisa wagged her finger at him. “My type A personality is needed around here with your type B personality.”
“Nisa, you just need to—”
“Relax.” Nisa rolled her eyes as he cocked his index finger at her. He always said the same thing to her, and it had become a running joke between them. “Yeah, yeah.”
“There you go.”
“You go .”
Eric winked at her as he walked by.
“For what it’s worth,” Ryce touched her shoulder, “I admire your strong work ethic.”
“Thank you, Ryce. I’m glad at least one of you appreciates my efforts around here.”
Ryce clapped her on the back. “Always.”
Nisa grinned, pushing her glasses back up her nose as he walked away and left the lab with Eric. She liked Eric, but she adored Ryce. He didn’t know it, but she admired his work ethic, too, not that Eric actually slacked on the job. He was an integral part of the team, even if he was a smartass. It was no wonder she was attracted to Ryce’s warmth and calm nature.

The thought circled through her mind as she furiously typed in the numbers of the latest test results on her computer. With a weary groan, she flexed her fingers and sat back in her chair.
