Adam and myself in the shins and legs, and he started yelling, "Let me go you fucking assholes."
Wanting to shut him up before he got the entire dance hall crowd out here, Adam pulled one hand out from around him, putting that hand over Red's mouth to quiet the yelling, but that weakened his bear hug considerably.
Red started to squirm and try to throw himself out of Adam's grip, so I punched him in the stomach as hard as I could.
I knocked the breath out of him, accomplishing my goal of shutting him up, along with the sheer pleasure of punching the guy who'd threatened Grace.
    Damn, but that felt good.
I was tempted as hell to throw another punch to his jaw, just because, but this wasn't a fair fight.
I've never been the kind of man to go off beating the shit out of a man who wasn't standing on his own two feet and able to defend himself. Being held by mouth and waist by Adam, and lifted off the ground, was not how I wanted to kick Red's ass. Oh no, fair, and one-on-one, was the only way I was planning on getting my point across.
"Take him around back," I said to Adam.
    "With pleasure."
We made it around back attracting as little attention as we could, but I knew for a fact that a fight wasn't going to stay a secret long. Bar fights were almost as big of an attraction as rodeo events were. I knew we only had minutes before word spread and the crowd inside spilled outside.
This would have to be done quickly.
Red had gotten his breath back by the time we reached the back of the bar. When Adam released him he didn't fall to his knees, he stood his ground eying both of us, his face swiveling back and forth between us.
"Give me your phone, Red. Save yourself some blood and bruises. Give me the phone, and you get to walk away mostly unhurt."
"Fuck you! And fuck you, too! Hell, you two should fuck each other and leave Grace alone."
    Adam spoke up.
"You're the one who should leave Grace alone, Red. It was prety obvious on the dance floor earlier that she has no interest in you. Whatever relationship you two had, if any, is over. And honestly, I think it was pretty damned chicken shit of you to threaten her by showing her father whatever it was you think you saw."
"Oh, I know exactly what I saw. I saw her nice and snug between the two of you, and from the sounds, and the video I got with my phone, I can prove she isn't the high and mighty princess she appears to be. If her daddy knew what she was up to, he'd disown her, quick as a bullet. All that vet school money she's counting on? Gone. Her standing in this town? Gone. Her ability to take over his vet practice when he retires eventually, gone as well."
"That may or may not be true, but either way- why would you want to do that to her? What has she ever done to you?"
"That's none of your damned business, now is it?"
    I nodded.
"True enough. But what is my business is that phone. I'll ask you again, Red. Hand it over, or I'll pull it out of your pocket when you're laying bloody and broken in the dirt. Your choice. We both know you aren't walking away with it. You can give it up and stay in one piece or I'll take it from you after I break you in a lot of small, painful pieces."
Red's eyes shot back and forth between me and Adam.
    Adam stood aside, watching us.
He thought like I did about fair fights. We always had each others backs, but two against one here wasn't going to happen. He'd keep the growing crowd back as much as he could, to give us room, and he'd jump in if anyone of the growing number of onlookers decided they wanted to help Red, but for right now, he was content to watch.
I took a step closer to Red, and enjoyed the panicked look on his face when he took his own step backwards, only to run into the wall of the bar.
I watched him realize that he had only a few options.
He could give me his phone, or he could try to fight his way past me.
I stood and waited for his decision.
I watched his thoughts roll across his red face. I could practically see him
