a few minutes,” she sighed. “I’m sorry.”
“It’s fine. I should really get home and clean up,” he started.
“You could use my shower if you want,” the words were out before she could take them back.
“Only if you’d join me,” he grinned.
“Michael,” Natalie blushed. Could she? She didn’t think she’d be brave enough to get naked in front of him, not without the covers pulled up and the lights out and… “Can we shower in the dark?” She flushed and looked at the ground, embarrassed to admit her insecurity of stripping down in front of him. It was odd; she could strip down and change at work, but the thought of standing naked in front of Michael left her feeling vulnerable.
He nodded, not saying a word. His body was already responding to the thought of s eeing Natalie naked.
By the time the maintenance guy showed up, Michael had a full erection . He lost it quickly as the guy started bitching about how he didn’t have time for things like this, and she should be more careful.
    “Is that necessary?”
    “Excuse me?”
Michael repeated himself, “Is it necessary for you to berate her? It was an accident.”
“I’m just saying I’m busy and I don’t have time for this, and…”
“ You are being paid to do this, correct, and it’s part of your job?”
“You’re an ass, buddy.” Turning to Natalie, “Voila,” he said, pushing her door open.
“Thank you,” she said, embarrassed to be caught between the glaring men.
“You can do better,” he said to her, and then headed down the hallway.
Natalie didn’t say anything, and the moment had vanished. She knew she wouldn’t be joining him in the shower, in fact, she just might send him home. It felt awkward now.
“Why don’t you go get cleaned up and I’ll meet you for dinner later,” she suggested, hinting at the fact that the double shower wasn’t happening.
Michael looked at Natalie. “This isn’t happening, is it?”
“I don’t think so, at least not right now. We can try again another time,” she said half-heartedly.
He had this grand idea of sweeping her off her feet and making love to her. She was all he could think of on the flight home, and yet here he was unable to figure out what just happened. He was always so smooth, it was usually effortless, but with Natalie it was work. Why was it difficult? Maybe it wasn’t meant to be.
“Right, I’m going to head home and get cleaned up. Why don’t we push dinner back to tomorrow, it was a long day.”
“Sounds good,” they both knew what was happening. It was like they could only ignite the spark, but not take it further. Why did they keep stalling out?
As Michael headed to the door, Natalie spoke. “I do want this,” she whispered.
“We’ll get there,” was all he said, and then let himself out. Trudging down five flights of stairs, his luggage in hand, Michael flagged down a cab and headed home. This wasn’t what he planned… it was anything but that. He should be in her bed, making love to her, exploring her body, kissing her tender skin, pleasuring her, listening to her sweet moans – but he wasn’t.

Chapter 10
Work called him away for the next few days, and dinner was pushed off. Maybe it was for the best. It gave him time to think, to clear his head. Did he want to get involved with her, did he want to marry her for his career, or did he want to be free to make his own choices?
The conversation they shared, the moments while he was away faded once he was back home. Work kept him busy, and he wasn’t as lonely with a full plate. He’d know when he saw her – know if he was still drawn to her in the same way.
Arranging to have dinner on the weekend, Michael decided to trust his gut, and see how he felt on seeing her. His thoughts were clouded with too many variables.
Natalie didn’t know what she wanted anymore. She wanted to spend time with Michael, but not as his wife, but simply as his girlfriend. This arrangement, this contract
