that first morning for her to leave to go to work. She’d come out dressed in a loose white blouse, black slacks, flats, and her hair pulled back in a tight bun.
Jack had told him about her scent and his body’s reaction to her. He’d said she was the one for them. Seeing her tall, slim body the first time, he thought Jack had been mistaken. It wasn’t until she opened her door that night and her scent hit him. Then her eyes met his, and he knew Jack was right. Damn, but he was right.
She peeked her head around the door. “You’re standing naked at the window.”
Laughter rumbled through his chest. She was such a delightful mixture of a passionate sensual woman with a reserved personality. “The horses don’t mind seeing me naked.”
He strolled across the room and picked up her overnight bag. “Did you forget to take this in with you?” He dangled it toward her.
“Yes.” She reached out her hand.
“You have to come here and get it.”
“It’s broad daylight, and the window is open.”
“No one will see that lovely body but me. Hurry up. I need to shower, and we have to be on our way.”
She gave him her strongest frown. He laughed again and didn’t move. She stared at him for several minutes. He waited.
Finally, making an exasperated sound, she ran to him and grabbed for the case. He dropped it, pulled the towel she was holding around her off, and held her against his body. His hand cupped her neck. He tipped her head and ravished her mouth.
“That is a nice good-morning greeting.” He bent and handed her the bag. As she turned to stalk away, his hand gave her a light smack on her butt. She threw him a heated glance and rushed into the bathroom, locking the door.
Sahale looked down at his dick standing at attention. “I think we’ve got all we can get for the present. You might as well calm down.”
When Ellen came out, he went in and took a cold shower. Afterwards, he dressed in his jeans, shirt, and boots, and tied his hair back. He was pleased to find she’d made coffee and toast for them. They ate quickly. Following her outside, he locked the door, took their cases to the truck, and helped her in.
He turned to her as he started the engine. “Mitch and Daren will probably have some questions for you when we get back. Jack or I will be with you all the time.”
“You’ve talked with them since we left?”
“Once when we got down from the mountain.” He saw her nod. He drove the truck down the narrow lane and back toward the ranch. He hated to leave. Nothing ahead was going to be easy.

Chapter Seven

Sahale called Jack on their way in. “We’re to meet with Mitch and Daren at one.”
    “Are you alone?” Jack asked.
“No. We’ll be back around noon. I’ll come by your office and get you.”
“All right. See you then,” Jack said, and disconnected the call.
“Is your meeting about me?” Ellen asked. She’d been looking out the window, but she turned to look at him.
“Partially. I suspect the men who wanted to kidnap you weren’t just interested in what you might know about us. I’m concerned they were after something else. For your sake and ours, we need to know what they want.”
“I’ve feared my ex-father-in-law might be behind the attempt to kidnap me. I don’t understand why. I haven’t said anything to anyone before I told you, and I know nothing about his business.”
“You never heard a conversation that made you have questions about him or your ex-husband?”
“It was so long ago, and I’ve tried to bury those memories.”
“We might need you to remember them. I can help you.”
    “I don’t want to.”
Sahale let the subject drop. He’d wait and see if Mitch and Daren wanted her memories tapped before bringing up the issue again. They could be retrieved in two ways, through him working with her or through their machine that filters or takes memories away. He’d prefer it was through him.
His body had become so attuned to hers he was
