will the vines to grow.
She starts to step towards me. I need to keep her put.
"Why are you doing this?" I infuse my voice with fear to keep her engaged.
"It's my job. Plus, I genuinely don't like you."
"You don't even know me." I only need a few more feet of vine for my plan to work. "I never did anything to you."
"You exist!" She’s spitting the words at me. "If your perfect mother hadn't gone and got knocked up, Hades would have gotten bored with her long ago."
"You love him?" I feel pity for her, but I remember she killed my father. Just like that, the vines grow another ten feet. They whip around and wrap around her neck. I force them to squeeze just enough to keep her in her place.
    Her eyes bulge.
"Listen here, cretan . You murdered my parents and for what, a crush?" I want her to pay, but I’m not a murderer. The vines curl tighter and make her face turn a bright shade of red. "Unlike you, I have a soul and I will not taint it by murdering a low-lifer like you. So here's what I want you to do. Leave and don't come back or so help me I'll walk straight into the Underworld and tell Hades everything. Apollo, the lovesick infatuation, and I'll throw in the hatred for my mother for good measure." She’s starting to turn blue. Instantly the vines release and she drops to the ground.
"Go. Now! Before I change my mind."
To my surprise, she listens. She turns and runs back through the corridor to the front. I hear a piercing scream echo through the store. I run to the front. It sounds like… Lyla.

"What the crap was that? OMG, what are you? Who was she?" She’s starting to hyperventilate. I rush toward her and grab her shoulders, ignoring the way she draws back slightly.
"Lyla, what are you doing here?" I don't sound mad, just confused.
"I was worried. So, I went to your house to check on you, and you were walking out with that freak Alec. I thought you were only going to talk to him." I stiffen. "Anyways, I followed you here. Then that Tomb Raider wannabe broke in giving me the chance to sneak in and.. Oh my god is that lady really dead?"
I snap back to reality and run towards the back. Alec is out cold. I run to Cass. She’s still breathing, but barely. She looks up at me with calm eyes.
"Should I pull the knife out?" She nods and with shaking hands, I grab the knife. It's not like in the movies where it just pops out. I have to put a lot of weight behind it. Without the knife to staunch the bleeding, the blood is really starting flow. I put my hands over the wound.
I’m crying uncontrollably because I can’t get the bleeding to stop. I don't know this woman very well. I just know she’s important to me. I don't know why, it’s just a feeling. "Please, please, don't die!"
I scream at Lyla, "Call 911!"
Cass shakes her head. "Please! You need an ambulance." I’m trembling, and my tears drop down my face and hit her body. She relaxes as if my tears make her feel better. "Cass you need to stay with me. You need to keep your eyes open." I grab the blanket off the chair and put it against her wound. I have to stop the bleeding.
She grabs my wrist hard. "You can do it Bright Fire." Her hand drops and her head lolls to the side. She isn’t moving. She isn't breathing. She’s dead.
A scream of pain and rage rips through me. I throw my body onto hers gripping her tightly and sobbing uncontrollably. Lyla tries to pull me off of her, but I hold tight. I beg whatever force there is from above to bring her back. I feel bound to her as if her death is shattering me and I can't explain it.
I feel something against my hair and slap it away.
"Ow." I jerk up. It’s Cass's voice I hear, I’m sure of it. I look down, and sure enough her eyes are open. My jaw drops. “I told you you could do it," she says weakly. I pull the blanket from her chest and stare at her sternum. There is no wound. If it weren't for the blood I wouldn't know anything happened.
    "What the hell? I
