brink. Lowering her other hand from her breast, she slid two fingers up inside herself, pushing against her G-spot, wishing desperately that it was Luke’s cock, long and hard and thick, embedded inside her.
Leaning against the shower wall, she spread her legs wider and with a silent gasp, pushed herself over the edge. She shuddered as she came hard on her fingers. Her eyes stayed closed as she imagined Luke growling his satisfaction in her ear.
“That’s it, Kat. Give yourself over to me. I’ll keep you safe, I promise.”
Shaking, the fantasy of Luke’s deep voice playing in her head, it took her a moment to calm down and realized what she’d just done. Mortification hit her. She couldn’t believe she’d just masturbated in the shower while imagining Luke was with her. And even worse, she’d initially gotten hot and bothered thinking of the way he’d protected her from those men! Obviously, it was she who hadn’t been immune to the whole Me Tarzan, You Jane mentality she’d accused him of harboring.
Quickly, she finished rinsing off then toweled herself dry.
She needed to pull herself together.
She wasn’t some helpless woman who needed a man to save her. More to the point, she wasn’t here to get involved with a man, in bed or otherwise. She was here to feel safe, and reflect on her life and what she really wanted. It was probably for the best that she’d pissed Luke off. He’d put the distance between them that she should have. So be it.
Unfortunately, despite her mental musings that staying away from Luke was the smart thing to do, she couldn’t stop thinking about him. The fantasy she’d played out in the shower seemed to have opened some kind of gate, and other fantasies formed one after another. Fantasies of them dressed and undressed, taking turns caressing one another, licking and sucking and exploring to their hearts’ content.
By the time she was dressed and had her hair braided, Kat had no choice but to accept she was more attracted to Luke and curious about him than she was mad. She even had her lunch and dinner outside, hoping he’d come out to walk Bella or read or eat, and they could talk. But it was as if he knew when she was outside and was avoiding her, because she didn’t see him at all.
That night, when she went to bed, he was the last thing on her mind before she fell asleep.
And the first thing on her mind when she woke.

The next morning, Kat spotted Bella traipsing along the trail alone. Twenty minutes later, Bella was back. Again alone.
    Had something happened to Luke?
Kat headed toward Bella, her mind still locked on that question.
She immediately thought of the men Luke had confronted yesterday. Then of the person that had been threatening her at home. Of the driver that had almost run her off the road. Fear exploded into her veins. What if one of them had come looking for Luke after he’d helped her? Or come looking for her, and instead had found him? Had someone hurt him?
    And was it her fault?
“Bella! Hey, pretty girl, wait up.”
It was a testament to how well Luke had trained Bella that she stopped and waited. Kat had seen Luke give the dog hand commands on occasion and she held her hand up, palm down, and Bella sat.
Kat immediately approached the little dog, squatting in front of her and rubbing her behind the ears. “What are you doing out here all alone, girl? Where’s Luke?”
Bella’s soft eyes met hers and her pink tongue came out and swiped Kat’s hand. Kat looked at Luke’s cabin, hesitating. After that incident by the lake and her subsequent behavior in the shower yesterday, she’d told herself repeatedly that she needed to stay away from Luke. She was far too attracted to him and didn’t need that kind of distraction.
When Bella whined softly, more alarm bells went off in Kat’s head. Distraction or not, she owed Luke for helping her yesterday. Rising, she snapped her fingers the way she’d seen Luke do. Bella followed
