I
wanted to get out of the car! He was a mad man!
“ Charles discovered that
she has been released from Seattle Mental Institute and that she is
looking for me. She knows I live in Dallas but our picture was
splashed on the front cover of all the gossip magazines this week
so I assume she knows I am here on business.” He growled in
frustration. “I’m going to sue the bastard who took our
picture!”
Everything inside me went dark. My dad
had knew where I was because he probably saw the magazine. I
couldn't talk, I couldn't think. He was worried about his crazy,
psychopath ex-girlfriend and all I could think about was my drunk,
dead beat dad.
Before I knew it we had pulled up to
my place with the SUV pulling up right behind us. Kennedy and Ayden
weren't home yet, so the house was empty. I suddenly felt alone.
Stefan opened the door and grabbed my hand, pulling me, a little
harder than normal, out of the car. He spun me around so we met
chest to chest. He stared into my eyes; his eyes were smoky and
uneasy.
"Jennifer, I will let nobody hurt
you...nobody. Please trust me. I will kill anyone who lays a hand
on you." He leaned his forehead on mine and closed his eyes for a
moment. When he opened them again, I could see the flames; they
pulled me in.
"I promise. Do you believe me? Do you
trust me Jennifer?" He looked into my eyes waiting for an answer.
All I could do was nod; I felt like I had a cotton ball in my
throat, I just couldn't form the words
"Answer me." He pulled his forehead
back from mine.
"Yes-I trust you" I stammered
out.
He grabbed my hand and pulled me to
the front door with Charles following very close behind us. As I
opened it, he looked over at me angrily, realizing I didn't unlock
it.
"You need to have all of your doors
and windows locked at all times. Is that understood
Jennifer?"
"Y-Yes" My voice was shaky. I reached
over and thumbed the number into the security system. Charles was
behind us, and side stepped to get around us and started walking
through the house with his hand over his gun that was secured on
his side. There was no way this was happening. After a few minutes
Charles reappeared from upstairs and looked at Stefan. "The house
is fine, Sir. No sign of anyone being in here at all. I think
she’ll be fine with the windows and door locked and the security
system on. I’ll wait outside for you."
"Thank you Charles" I said to him as
he walked out the door. He shot me a quick smile and closed the
door. Stefan collapsed on my couch putting his face in his hands. I
felt the tension and the stress that was coursing through his
veins. What could I do to take this away? I sat down next to him
and wrapped my arm around his, laying my head on his
shoulder.
"Stefan, please don't worry. I’ll be
okay. I promise."
"Jennifer, I have to leave in the
morning for Dallas. I have a lot of meetings and things to catch up
with. I don't know how I let you get into this situation. Why do
people care about my boring life anyways?" He let out a long sigh
and turned to face me, his head still in his hands.
"I have a roommate, I have a security
system, I have a bat around here somewhere, and I will be okay. I
will manage." Stefan let out a sigh and leaned back into the sofa,
running his hands through his dark hair.
We sat there in silence for a while,
each too deep in our own thoughts to carry on a conversation with
each other.
Before too long; he was signaling he
was ready to leave. I stood to my feet and started walking to the
front door. The air had become stuffy between us; I felt like I
would never see him again. Stefan grabbed my hand, forcing me to
look into his eyes.
"Are you okay? I’m worried about you."
His eyes were searching my face and I knew I had to be strong; for
myself and for him.
"I’ll be okay. If I get worried, I’ll
contact you, promise." I kept my face straight so he wouldn't know
I felt otherwise.
"I’ll call you when I get home, tell
you what my schedule looks like. As
