and more than likely was the shooter.
I could feel Cali shaking in my arms, then she pushed out of my embrace. “It had to be him. How could he? Excuse me.” Cali ran from the room, so I followed after up to the bathroom.
“Cali open up.” She was retching in the toilet.
I pounded on the door before she mumbled, “It’s open.” Trying the knob, she was right; it opened with ease. She tearing off her clothes. I tried not to be turned on with her in her underwear. Cali ran the shower.
“Babe, what’s going on? What are you doing?” I stopped her before she walked.
“I have to wash him off my skin,” she said vehemently. Reaching around her back, she unsnapped her bra, letting it fall. Damn. Her tits were so fucking perky and perfect.
“What do you…Wait, he was hugging you when I came in.” The bastard had been trying to comfort her from his own handiwork, that cost her everything but me.
She nodded vigorously entering the stall. “Yes, he took the opportunity to tell me how sorry he was for my loss. How he could help plan the funeral.”
I wanted to punch the wall and lose my cool, but she needed my support though. I’d make him pay later.
“Listen, Cali, I know you’re disgusted. He’s vile and more than likely a murderer, but remember you didn’t do anything wrong. His hug and kindness was a part of his plan.” She nodded then closed the shower door. “Fine, Cali. Come back down soon. I’m sure the police will have more questions.”
“Okay,” she shouted over the spray. I walked to the door, then turned back to glance at her. My rage was reaching astronomical proportions. There was nothing better than death for him. I closed the door and joined the officers back downstairs.
“Is she going to be okay,” Dr. Levine asked.
I rubbed the back of my neck in frustration. “Yeah, he hugged her, offering her support.”
“Yes, psychopaths like that will venture to view the aftermath of their actions. If we don’t get to him, I think he’ll make his appearance again.” The detective and I sat around and waited while the rest of the team did their thing.
“I want her to have some protection on her. We can’t leave the house until I know she’s safe. I would say that I was enough protection, but as you can see, he is a coward and attacked from a distance.”
“We can hire someone, but it can’t be twenty-four hours. The budget won’t allow for it.”
“No, I want someone to tail him. If he’s monitored, then I’d feel better.”
“We could do that, but again it couldn’t be twenty-four seven.”
“I can hire a few people to keep tabs on him until he’s arrested.”
“We might be able to nail him if we have enough evidence for an attempted kidnapping and assault on Ms. Delaney.”
“Hey, Keith. Is there anything in the glass?” Clayton asked while another member of the forensic team took photos.
“Yes, sir. There’s traces of GHB and/or methamphetamines. We’ll need to run some more tests, but there are definitely drugs in this glass. Also, there’s several prints on here. I will need a copy of hers along with the other glass because his fingerprints should be on it.” Everything was bagged and photographed.
The tech asshat approached us with the phone in an evidence bag. “There’s not tracking information on her phone, but all her photos are empty. Do you know if she took pictures with her cell? Most people do, so it’s strange that there’s nothing there and there’s no special screensavers. Most people change their screensavers at the very least. There’s not even a picture for that.”
“I don’t know; I didn’t see her phone.”
“They were erased. Every image I had in there is gone. Every single picture of my family has been erased.” Her overwhelming sorrow got to everyone in the room. I rushed to her side, wrapping her up in my chest.
“I can see if I can recover them, but that will have to wait until we have all the evidence we can gather
