good person, but you worry too much. I care for you, Sam, and I care about you. I want to be part of your life. That includes seeing where you sleep at night.”
    “It’s embarrassing,” Sam admitted.
“It shouldn’t be.” Travis leaned in and whispered, “I’m the guy who plans to eat your ass, remember? Nothing should be embarrassing between us. Which reminds me, my blood has always tested negative and I have results from a couple of months ago. I haven’t been with anyone since. I’ll take a new test, though, just to be safe.”
Sam smiled. “Great minds think alike. I had blood drawn a few days ago and the results were negative.” He reached for his wallet.
Travis stopped him. “I trust you.”
“I trust you, too.” Sam gazed into his eyes. “But I do have to be careful. You’d be awfully easy to fall for, Dr. Travis Nelson.”
Travis’ smile was endearing. “Go right ahead and fall, handsome. I’ll be here to catch you, any time and every time.”
Sam cupped Travis’ face as they kissed, hungry again for the taste of him. As their tongues battled, his mind wandered.
He prayed for the same things each night. For Mel to be healed physically and mentally and become a happy person and the mother she was meant to be. For Levi to grow up happy, healthy and secure, and always feeling safe, full, protected and very much loved.
Tonight Sam’s prayers would be different. Tonight he was going to pray with all his heart that Mel would be up to keeping Levi for a few hours the next day, so he could spend some time in the loving embrace of Dr. Travis Nelson. He couldn’t think of anything he wanted more.

Travis rode his bike fifteen miles Sunday morning then showered and called his parents, all before ten a.m. He knew Melanie would probably sleep until noon so if Sam was going to have any free time it’d be afternoon to evening. He didn’t know if she worked Sundays. Maybe they’d have more time if she didn’t.
He did some laundry, put fresh sheets on the bed, and vacuumed and dusted his already fairly clean house. Nervous energy raced through him, and he couldn’t just sit. Somewhere around twelve-thirty he had a sinking feeling— What if Sam can’t get away? Their whole day depended on his deadbeat sister and whether or not she felt like spending time with her son.
As he paced, he forced himself to temper his thoughts. Melanie was Sam’s twin sister. He loved her deeply, or he wouldn’t be doing what he was for her and her boy. If Travis wanted to be part of Sam’s life, he’d have to tread gently where the sister was concerned. Calling her a deadbeat wouldn’t win him any points, even if that was how she came across to him.
His phone vibrated and Travis glanced at the screen.

    Want some company?

Sam had added a devil emoticon. He smiled and typed back.

Is that a hypothetical question? One that really doesn’t require an answer?

    I know what hypothetical means.

    Travis felt like an idiot.

Sorry. Get your ass over here.

    On my way.

He pocketed his phone, his heart racing. Finally. Time alone with Sam. His dream lover for the past week would finally be here in real life, and they’d be alone. It was almost too good to be true.
When his bell rang half an hour later, Travis tried not to rip the door off its hinges. He opened it carefully, as if he actually contained any self-control at that point. “Hey,” he said nonchalantly.
“Hey.” Sam stepped inside and closed the door behind him. When he turned to face Travis again, they both had the same expressions on their faces.
Travis pulled him into his arms and pressed their lips together.
Sam opened his mouth and they kissed hungrily, tongues probing, hands exploring.
“Finally,” Travis sighed after catching a breath.
“Feels like we’ve been waiting for this forever,” Sam agreed. He unbuttoned the collar of Travis’ shirt. “Don’t want to wait any longer.”
    “No
