Skylar wanted to pull Abby close to him and take away her pain. If he could erase what happened fifteen years ago, he would gladly do so. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw her wipe her face with the back of her hand. “I’m not going to hurt you.”
Abby didn’t say anything. She just nodded her head and stared out the window into the darkness.

Fifteen minutes later, Skylar pulled off the paved road onto a gravel road. A couple of minutes later he turned left and went over a cattle guard.
    “Where are we?”
Skylar glanced at Abby. He reached over and gently rubbed her left cheek with the back of his hand. “We’re almost home. You need a warm bath, and I need to check your injuries. As for the rest of the night, we will just have to figure it out as it comes, but you will sleep with me. My bed is where you belong. Tomorrow, we go get you some clothes.”
“I have to go to the job site.”
    “It’s too dangerous for you.”
“It’s too dangerous if I don’t go. Structural reinforcement is just one of my specialties. The team is good, and they know what I want, but I’m the supervisor. I have to be there.”
“You could have been killed this morning when the wall fell on you. It’s too dangerous for you to be in that basement.”
Abby’s mouth hung open as she stared at him. How dare he tell her she couldn’t go to work because her job was too dangerous. “I don’t think you should go back to work at that construction site either.”
“I’m the boss. I run the company.”
“It’s too dangerous. Too many things can happen on construction sites.”
    “I’m going to work tomorrow.”
Abby shook her head. “If I can’t go to my job because it’s dangerous, you can’t go to yours either. It’s just as dangerous as mine if not more so.”
Skylar parked the truck. “A construction site is not the place for a woman.”
“Don’t you dare tell me a woman can’t work in a construction site! My dad, an alpha wolf, lost that fight and you will lose it too. I’m a structural engineer and I’m damn good at what I do.” Abby unbuckled the seatbelt, opened the door, and jumped out of the truck faster than Skylar thought a human could move.
By the time he caught up with Abby, she was half way to the gate. “Where do you think you’re going?” he asked as he grabbed her arm to stop her.
“I’m going back to town.” Abby jerked her arm out of his grasp and started walking again.
Mate leaving. I want my mate. Skylar’s bear growled.
    No, she is not.
    You made mate mad.
Skylar shook his head. His bear was angry with him. Abby was angry with him. “Damn, stubborn woman.” Skylar stomped after Abby. “You are not going anywhere except into my bed.”
She heard Skylar coming up behind her again, but she was too mad to care. He had a lot of nerve telling her she couldn’t work because her job was too dangerous. Who did he think he was? For over ten years, she had work as a structural engineer. Yes, the work could be dangerous, but then any job could be dangerous. “Stupid men,” grumbled Abby.
“You aren’t going anywhere.” A growl filled the night air.
“What?” Abby saw Skylar’s face for two seconds before her world went upside down and she found herself looking at his rear. “Put me down!”
“I warned you what would happen if you tried running away from me.”
Abby’s eyes widened. “You wouldn’t dare.”
Skylar’s hand came down hard on Abby’s rear.
Abby yelped. She couldn’t believe he had really spanked her. It startled her rather than hurt. Skylar’s hand rested on her rear. She felt the warmth through her denim jeans.
His hand moved away, only to come down hard on her rear again.
Abby jerked. This time the swat stung. “Put me down.”
“You are going to learn to do what I tell you to do.”
“I’m not a child you can boss around.”
The third swat came without warning.
Abby moaned. She felt herself growing wet. She never thought a
