brother?” She was almost certain the long legged wolf about to enter the ballroom was the same one who had shown up in the bedroom early in the night. She shivered, remembering the look in the man’s eyes as his gaze had roamed over her covered in just a thin satin sheet.
The man holding her growled low in his throat warning her he was not pleased with where her thoughts were straying. She blushed as he whispered in her ear, “I will spank you for that later, my mate. And I’m not talking about just those luscious ass cheeks.”
He swirled her around dipping her over his arm. The look in his eyes made her shiver in want. “I’m going to take you back upstairs and take you over my lap and spank your ass until it’s a bright rid for thinking of my brother and growing wet, little witch. Then I’m going to spread those beautiful round legs and spank that pretty pussy with my hand until you come, reminding you who it belongs to.”
Hayden swung Amber back up in his arms, watching the red flood her cheeks at his earthy words. When he met her gaze, she buried her face in his shoulder and he let out a husky laugh. He loved her innocence. Hell, he loved everything about her, even if he had just met her a few hours ago. As they resumed dancing, he remembered her question.
Sure enough, striding toward the entrance was his brother. Sometimes it paid to be bigger and faster than anyone else. He had a clear view of the room over the top of almost every other couple on the dance floor.
“You were right, baby, that is Hayden.” He maneuvered them so she could see his brother again. “And if, I’m not mistaken, he’s claimed his mate.”
Amber let out a little squeal, almost bumping into a couple passing by. “Oh, she’s pretty. But she looks a little, umm, mussed.” She smiled up at him and he knew she was thinking about the hours they’d spent together before rejoining the party.
Hayden threw back his head and laughed, making more than one pair of eyes turn their way. Even though he wasn’t Gunner, the wolf with the reputation of being cold and aloof, Hayden wasn’t known for fun and frolicking. The Barringer men all held an edge of darkness. “Some could say the same about you, sweetheart,” he pointed out gently. Anyone looking at his mate would instantly know she’d been bedded. And claimed. Just thinking of their time together had his cock jumping behind the zipper of his pants.
“Oh, no. I think there’s about to be trouble.”
Hayden stopped dancing and turned his full attention toward the back of the room, his wolf going on alert, even though he knew his younger brother was more than capable of taking care of himself, and everyone around him.
His brother and the curvy auburn haired woman stood face-to-face. He could feel the anger emanating off his brother and the tension in the woman. He knew his brother could handle whatever was going on between him and his mate. No, the danger his wolf felt was coming from the woman standing to the side, a glass of champagne clutched in her hand watching the couple with a nasty expression on her face.
Hayden placed his hand in the small of his Amber’s back, rubbing it in reassurance. He could feel the unease building in her. “Let’s go see what’s going on, sweetheart.” Just as he was about to usher her through the crowd, his brother stopped talking and took his mate’s hand. Soon he was leading her across the floor headed towards the stage on the left side of the room that housed the orchestra.
“Well, that’s an unexpected turn of events.”
Gunner never liked to be the center of attention. He usually spent events such as these hiding in the shadows. Just as Hayden’s was about to reach out to his father through the pack link, he felt the older man’s presence. He was making his way toward the stage, along with Amber’s mother.
Just what was his brother up to?
Trixie barely resisted the urge to throw the glass of champagne in her cousin’s
