knew he did.
    I entered the kitchen.
Jeff turned to greet me. “Morning love, did you sleep well?” he said. Wearing a smile, an apron and socks, nothing else.
Christ what had got into him?
I looked across at the laid table, then the clock on the wall. Eight thirty? What was Jeff still doing here? “Shouldn’t you be at work?” I asked.
“I’ve given myself the day off.”
“What do you mean you’ve given yourself the day off? You never have time off. Are you alright?”
“’I’m fine. I just wanted to spend the day with you. Should I call back and say I’m coming in?” he said, cocking his head.
“No, of course not. It’s just not like you.”
“There are a lot of things I’ve been doing over the last few days that aren’t like me. To be honest I’m enjoying not being me. I don’t ever want to be me again,” he said, laughing. “Take a seat, breakfast is ready. I was hoping to bring it up to the bedroom. When I heard you shuffling about up there, I laid the table. I guessed you be down before I finished.”
    “You not getting dressed.”
“Why, do you want me too?” he asked, a surprised look on his face as he brought the breakfast plates to the table.
“No. Not at all. It’s kinda sexy seeing you in just your socks.”
He beamed at me and took his seat.

Chapter Ten
“Kenzo says he can’t be our third anymore.”
    “Really? Why?”
“He said he felt he might get to emotionally invested, whatever that means.”
“You know what it means and he’s right. It can’t be easy shagging your friend’s wife.”
    “I guess.”
“So where do we go from here?” I asked, taking a sip of my coffee.
“Back to the suggestions on the list I suppose,” Jeff said without looking up at me. I don’t know what it was, but my senses were on full alert. He normally looked me in the eyes unless he was cooking up something he knew I wouldn’t like.
    “You don’t sound very enthusiastic.”
“I guess I’m not. I knew Kenzo, he was safe. Now we’re going to have to find strangers.”
“Oh! So you still want to keep doing this then?” I asked.
“Why, don’t you?” he asked. Finally he raised his head and stared at me as if trying to read my expression or mood, I wasn’t sure which.
“I want what you want. So where’d you think we’ll find a replacement for Kenzo?”
“I don’t know, that’s why I took the day off. I need to think about the safest way to go about this for both of us.”
“Oh, okay. I thought you said it was to spend the day with me.” I fell silent and finished eating my breakfast.
    ***
The rest of the day’s progression was slow and uneventful. So much for spending it with me. Jeff had locked himself in the study, okay maybe locked was too strong, although he may as well have. He sat there tinkering in front of his laptop with me bringing him a couple of cheese and cucumber sandwiches for lunch. He took the sandwiches and practically dismissed me. I left him to it and got on with my chores.
While I carried out my housework, I heard Jeff on the phone a number of times. His voice was too low for me to work out what the calls were about, I assumed it was his job.
Chores completed, I was a little lost as to what to do with myself. It would have been easier to decide if Jeff hadn’t been home. I didn’t much care for having him home during the day. I was left wondering if I should go out or stay in. He did say he had taken the time off work to be with me. Not that there was much evidence of that.
I was in two minds as to whether I should march into his study and claim some attention when he called out to me to join him. Although a little put out, I painted a smile on my face and went in.
“Here love, I’ve just be talking to Kenzo. He tells me there’s a place–a private club he knows where people like us go to find a third person for their relationship. He got us on the guest list for tonight if you’re interested.”
    “How did he manage to
