beautiful. She had even gone to the hair salon and had her hair styled in a sleek, sophisticated number that set off her eyes and mouth. The evening had been going perfectly until she had excused herself to go to the ladies room. She had been in the stall when two other women she knew from work came in. They were laughing about the bet their husbands had made with Darryl to see if he could make it into the tiny, new red-headed mechanic’s pants in less than a month. They laughed when they related how Darryl had bragged that it would take him less than two weeks before he bedded and dumped her, double or nothing! Cara had been shocked, then horrified before a slow rage built a wall around her fragile heart that was threatening to break. She had returned to the table and spent the rest of the meal acting like nothing was wrong. Once they had returned to her apartment, she had calmly thanked Darryl for a wonderful evening, declining his request for a night cap. She never said a word. She also never went out with him again. He had been pretty persistent at first. He had called her continuously until she changed her number. He had tried coming into the hanger where she was working until her boss told him to leave and not come back. He had even tried to force her to let him into her apartment. That was the day she had met Ariel and Trish. Ariel had just moved into the apartment next to her. When Darryl had tried to get forceful, Ariel and Trish had escorted him from the building, forcefully. It wasn’t long after that Darryl was transferred to one of their overseas offices. But the pain of the betrayal lingered for years, festering until she was too afraid to trust again.

Now though, she felt a physical response unlike anything she had ever experienced before in her twenty-four years. She wanted Trelon. And, he wanted her. He wasn’t giving her empty promises or using sweet words. It was all in the way he looked at her like she was the only thing in the world that matter. She was an adult. Why couldn’t she take what she wanted? A smile curved Cara’s lips as she finally made the decision she had been dreading and she felt-free. Cara danced down the corridors on her way back to Trelon’s living quarters. She was feeling hot tonight!

Trelon walked into his living quarters and realized almost immediately the mess that had stunned him before was set up in a somewhat organized pattern. The more he gazed at the components scattered…no, not scattered…they were organized by their uses he realized. Power was in one section and organized by capacity. Another held modules. The more he looked the more he appreciated what Cara was doing. She was disassembling components but it was to discover what they were. She had spread out on the couch items she had either put back together or modified. Trelon moved over and picked up his parts cloner. He frowned as he noticed the changes she had made to it. It looked like she had used parts from the food replicator to modify it. Pressing the button and scanning a splicing tool laying next to him, he jumped back in surprise when the exact same tool appeared next to the original. Fascinated, he scanned a soldering torch and watched as a duplicate one appeared. Setting the parts cloner down, he picked up the duplicated soldering torch and flicked the switch. A bright, blue laser light appeared immediately. She had taken his parts cloner and not only improved it but made it into something much, much better. The original parts cloner simply scanned the components and told you what you needed to make the part. Cara’s cloner not only scanned the components but duplicated them as well. It was amazing.

Trelon was so engrossed in the tool Cara had designed it took a minute for him to realize he was being watched. Looking up, he dropped the torch when he saw Cara standing in the doorway to the sleeping area wearing one of his shirts, and from the looks of it, nothing else.
