love that woman. I wanted him to love me and only me.
He continued to talk and I put aside my jealously to really listen to him. “I felt that I was losing Alyssa long before I lost her. I grew desperate and did something I never thought in a million years that I would be capable of. I became a deceitful person that I despised. Alyssa and I always used protection when we made love.”
I cringed inwardly when he referred to making love to this woman he referred to as Alyssa. I wanted to scream for him to stop and say that I didn’t want to hear anymore, but I didn’t. I remained tormented and silent as my heart felt like it was breaking into a million pieces.
“The last time Alyssa and I made love, I tampered with the condoms in hopes that she would get pregnant. In my mind that was the way to keep her by my side. Nothing worked and she married the love of her life, Drake Peterson, anyway. She thought the baby was Drake’s up until the time he was born. I hired a detective to gather pictures of the baby. I still had the idea that I could make her mines, even after she was married. My conscious kicked in at the last minute and I did what was right for all involved. To atone for my deceit, I gave up parental rights to my son.”
My heart broke for the man that I loved. He had given up his beautiful baby boy. I knew that wasn’t an easy decision for him to make. I understood he had made some bad decisions but to give up his son had to kill him bit by bit inside.
“I needed to look at myself in the mirror,” he continued. “I had to look at the man in the mirror and change who I was becoming.”
Tears streamed down my cheeks, like a river. I quickly wiped them away with the back of my hand. I stood and went to David with my arms open. I saw the pain from the memories reflect like a deep abyss in his eyes. I respected him more for baring his soul to me. I faced the man I loved more than any other man as he stepped into my embrace. My heart swelled and flooded as he embraced me in return. He let me know that he was far from being perfect. I’m not perfect and no one that walks this earth is, I thought to myself. David was human and I loved him through it all.
“I love you so much, David. I love you even more for trusting me with your truth. I am so sorry that you felt like you had to give up your beautiful baby to atone for your sins.” I tilted my face up to peer into his bright green eyes. I saw unshed tears there that he was fighting back. I looked deep into his eyes as memories of his past were revealed.
His tongue thrust into my mouth and mated intimately with mines. Our lips met in this time with a promise of building a bridge towards our future. I kissed him deeply and lovingly as the love I felt for him spoke for me.
He finally pulled back from the kiss and cupped my face in the palm of his big hands. His eyes penetrated mines like a blazing fire before he began to speak.
“Everything that ever went wrong in my life has led up to this very moment, to be in the presence of you, my angel. This relationship feels so right, unlike any other relationship that I have had before,” he said. “This time around, I now know the true meaning of the words soul mates. This love between us begins with you, Madelyn, and ends with you. Nothing or no one before us matters. This is it for me and I hope it is for you too.”
Happy tears streamed down my cheeks because of his confession. I could only nod my head because I was too choked up to speak.
“This is it for me,” he continued. "The end of the road when it comes to me loving anyone, besides you. This is also the beginning of me loving you forever, for the rest of my life." His head swooped down and kissed me into submission of my promise to love him for the rest of my life, even into eternity if I had anything to do with it.
