blinked, then focused his gaze on her, sensing a sudden uneasiness. She caught him by surprise to suggest such a thing. He wasn’t some overbearing sexual deviant that needed to trap a woman in order to have sex. She had nothing to fear. The look of slight trepidation in her eyes made him want to reassure her of his intentions, but he reassessed the situation. She’s only protecting herself, he thought. We’re technically strangers.
“That will be fine. We’re headed to Freehold Township. Do you know where that is?”
“Yes.” She nodded. “Right on Route Nine in Monmouth County.”
“Yes. We’ll take Route Nine North to 524 West. My sister lives by the high school.”
“Okay, I’ll set my GPS, and I’ll be right behind you.”
An hour later, Graham and Caresse pulled in front of Janet and Roland’s massive colonial house, complete with a manicured lawn, along with a variety of flowers and small bushes accenting the walkway. The neighborhood was barren, due to the light rain splattering the ground, but the lights illuminating the windows proved most of the families on this street were home.
Graham headed over to Caresse’s car to assist her with her door. “This is the place,” he said. He noticed how her dress had risen a little while she was driving and was thankful for a chance to get a better view of her legs.
“It seems we drove out of the storm,” she said as she took his hand and stepped from the car. She held her folder and purse in her right hand.
“Yes, but it will be here soon.” He pulled her closer in order to close her car door. The electricity of her touch made him very aware of her body. The way she smelled and the look of her lips gave him an undeniable need to press his body nearer to hers. Her voice broke his thoughts.
“Graham, thanks for inviting me to accompany you tonight. I’m sure this will be fun.”
He rubbed the back of his neck as they walked to the entrance and pushed the doorbell. He tried to maintain his composure because he knew Caresse’s presence would draw a plethora of questions from his older sister. Questions his sister would make sure she had a chance to ask before they left her dinner table.
He had brought business associates around his family before, but none had been as beautiful as Caresse. He had to make sure everyone knew her presence was about work because his business was just that, his business.
The door swung open and there stood Roland Walker, in a polo shirt and dress pants. A wide smile filled his lips as he looked from Caresse to Graham.
“My goodness,” he said, rubbing his gray head. Then he yelled over his shoulder, “Jan, tonight just got real interesting. Guess who’s coming to dinner?” Amazement plastered on his face like a silly grin, but Graham squared his shoulders and motioned Caresse inside.
Behind them, a heavy rain began to pour from the sky.

Chapter 4

Roland welcomed his guests inside his home as a rush of pint-sized relatives greeted Graham. “Uncle Graham! Uncle Graham,” four young boys yelled as they raced into the foyer. Graham felt his face split into a smile as he lifted the youngest to his shoulders and hugged the others to his side.
“Hold on there, guys. Where’s your Ma?”
“I’ll get her.” The oldest laughed and ran out of the room.
As soon as the child disappeared behind the swinging kitchen door Janet appeared, wiping her wet hands on her apron. “Graham, I’m glad you made it.” She kissed his cheek and took the umbrella. “Were the roads okay?”
“Yes, but it’s starting to come down now. We made it in time,” Graham replied as he placed his hand on Caresse’s back to move her toward the group. “Everyone,” he announced. “This is Caresse Aldana.”
His family extended warm greetings to her. “Caresse, this is my oldest sister, Janet Sheridan Walker, and her husband, Roland. And the mini welcoming committee, from nine to four, are Matthew, Mark, Luke, and Little
