“What’s the surprise?”
“The coffee and donuts aren’t enough?” She’s not going to tell me.
She’s explaining Darren’s glasses to me when we hear the helicopter. Loud. She’s not reacting to it so I listen to her until I hear Kate and Brenda. “Oh my God!” I jump up and Jess laughs while I’m running toward the back.
Aubrey comes running out the door at the back yelling, “Surprise!”
I laugh and bend catching her. “I love your surprises!” She holds my face and looks at me. “I love you, my favorite little sister.”
She giggles hugging me. “We have a surprise. You’re happy and we are too!”
I laugh, she’s so damn cute. “I am very happy and now even more happy because you’re here.”
Brenda comes in squealing and I laugh. Jeremy takes Aubrey’s hand and I set her down. He won’t let anything happen to her. Brenda tackles me. “Shit Bren. Calm down. I just talked to you like an hour ago.”
“Let me see it!” I let her go and show her my ring.
Kate, Tess and Jess come in and all kiss my cheek then look at my ring. Nancy comes in with CJ and Penny. “I’m so happy to see you all! I was going to ask Little Ben to ride up there today. I’m glad you’re all here.”
Anita comes in, telling everyone to help her get the food out. We all go to the kitchen and help. “I’m so glad everyone is here. What’s going on?”
Kate and Jess laugh. “It’s not every day the President of a Club takes an old lady. Today is for you Lily,” Kate says smiling at me.
Jess hugs me. “I’m so glad you made him work for it. He’ll treat you right because of that work.”
I give her a squeeze. “He does Jess. He’s been perfect for a while now. I’m happy.”
She kisses my cheek. “You deserve happy Lily. Even if it wasn’t with my son, you deserve it.”
I laugh. “I’m glad it’s with him.”
“You’ve been his from the minute you were born Lily. I’m happy for you,” Nancy says giving me a kiss. These women helped raise me, they have been my family forever and I’m so happy they are here for the biggest moment in my life. I thought graduating was special. Today they topped that.
I look around for Aubrey. “Shit.” I wipe my hands on a towel.
“What’s wrong?” Kate asks.
“I left Aubrey out there,” I say walking toward the door.
“She’s with Jeremy; he won’t leave her,” Brenda says.
I think of the whores and what she shouldn’t be seeing. “They won’t be here today. When the family is here they stay out of the Club,” Tess says smiling at me.
“I really like it here.” They all laugh, but the way things work is all good in my book.
We get the food put out and hear the Brothers in the bar. Perfect timing. Deirdre comes in hugging and kissing everyone. She’s so sweet.
Another helicopter has the MC Officers coming through the back door. They all congratulate me with hugs. They are like surrogate fathers to me. I love every one of them. I notice Steve and Geek missing. Marty rode with them and tells me they’re working, but Steve will be down next week. I’m glad. Little Ben loves his dad. Danny asks me the date and I laugh at him. I was told about his bets so I’ll leave it to Little Ben.
The guys go missing for a while and we sit around talking. I tell Kate about the businesses that will be funding the shelters. She’s surprised, which surprises me. I know Little Ben worked with her setting some of this stuff up. “He didn’t want me to have to raise the budget money. The businesses are already generating the money we need. I’ll just need to raise the money for the little extras I want.”
“I like that. It takes a lot of stress and ass kissing off the table,” Anita says making me laugh. I’m glad it will work like this. I won’t have the outside pressure of proving we’re a worthy cause for donors. Kate nods at me then winks. I loved my time working with her and know how she thinks. She’s going to start
