offered smiles and thanks to the crew and other cast members who were sitting a few aisles from her. The movie part of the premiere was over, and it was a relief. It was a proud moment for her to take in, a moment she was supposed to share with her husband, who was nowhere to be found. He’d been missing for at least the last hour. Alisa stood and waited for most of the theater on her side to clear out before leaving. It took a few minutes before she could move, but even then she remained still. It wasn’t until she felt an arm around her that she snapped out of staring across the way. People had disappeared. There were only a handful of stragglers waiting to leave, Ray and David included.
“Honey.” That was all Ray said before he wrapped his arms around her.
A huge whiff of his Armani cologne filled her nose as he hugged her, and soon after, she felt David come in for a group hug.
“You know we love you, right?” David kissed her forehead before they all dispersed.
They made her smile. They always made her smile.
“I love you guys,” Alisa wiped a stray tear from under her eyes. She grabbed her clutch from her seat, and the two of them held their arms out for her to lead her out to the party. “How’s my face?”
Ray smiled, “Gorgeous.”
There was something about Ray that made him completely understand Alisa without her having to explain much. He and David escorted her to the after party area where there were a few more cameras to greet all of them.
After answering questions for the press and posing with her favorite couple, the trio eventually made their way over to the main area where the music was playing, the attendees were chattering and dancing, and the drinks were being handed out left and right.
“There he is.” David said quietly, gesturing towards the bar.
That was her cue. With a deep breath, Alisa strode towards Logan but not too fast as to cause a scene. She stood in front of her husband.
“Why are you doing this?”
“Doing what?” Logan sipped at his glass, giving small waves and smiles at those who were wandering by and greeting him. “Congratulations, big star. Movie turned out great.”
Alisa shook her head, “Don’t do that, don’t act so nonchalant, Logan. You know exactly what you’re doing. Look, I’m sorry I didn’t tell you. I just found out this morning, and right after the gym I came home and had to get ready and ”
“Alisa!” Evie appeared beside her and squeezed her friend’s shoulders, “Logan, you’re missing out!”
“Not now, Eve.” Alisa immediately spat at her friend, knowing exactly the path this would go down.
The starry-eyed talk-show host quickly looked between Logan and Alisa, and before Alisa could stop it, the words poured out … “What? Isn’t he happy that you get to go to New York?! That is so exciting!”
Just like that, the excitement fizzled, and the tension rose. Logan’s chiseled features hardened again, this time sharpened by the lighting in the room. His eyes didn’t leave Alisa’s, and they were extremely cold and harsh. It almost made her sick. Alisa hadn’t seen him upset like this since before they got married, and the anger hadn’t been aimed at her. It was at Kurt or Michelle or one of those forgettable people they swore to leave behind. Those people may not have been a part of their lives now, but that familiar feeling of fear and aggravation was definitely present.
“Yep, so exciting. I’m so thrilled.” He stated, each word pressing harder on Alisa’s heart. Logan took another drink.
Alisa’s lips trembled. It was an uphill sprint, this argument, and she was not prepared to deal with it in this environment. It was too public. She couldn’t just scream at him to get through to him in front of the cameras, the phones, the onlookers everyone would capture her as crazy, and it would be on the cover of every disgusting tabloid or sleazy
