that a logical argument
would win the day, but her heart knew better. She would need to call on their
passions to get what she wanted. Only tonight would tell.
****
At 9 PM that evening, her gentlemen
arrived. She directed the butler to show them straight to her bedroom. It had
taken a lot of her courage to make that request, but she had done it. Her body
was one of her greatest weapons when it came to her men.
They entered and saw her in her
dressing gown. Their identical expressions of shock that soon turned into
hunger had an instant affect on her own body. Her
nipples tightened, and her lower belly heated with anticipation.
“I need to speak to you both before
we make love again.”
They began to strip off their
clothes and laid them carefully in a pile.
Michael grinned at her.
“Well, get straight to the point,
beautiful Margaret. We can smell how much you want us.”
She blushed and took a deep breath.
The moment had come.
“I don’t want you to turn me into a vampire.”
Michael and Nathaniel stopped
undressing, both clad only in their breeches. Her mouth ran dry at the
beautiful expanse of smooth skin exposed. She closed her eyes and focused on
her goal.
“I know you both want me to, but I
love my life exactly how it is now. I have you, and I have my freedom. Can’t we
continue like this? Spend every night together and then you can leave me to
continue my life during the day?”
Michael, her passionate, arrogant,
blond angel was next to her, pulling her into his arms before she could gasp.
“We need you, Margaret. Not by
halves.”
He began kissing down her neck, and
Margaret pushed against his chest in fear. If either of them were going to turn
her into a vampire against her will, it would be Michael.
“Don’t you dare bite me, Michael. I need to talk to you about this.”
Michael groaned but let her go.
Relief swept through her as she realized she could trust him. She needed to
know that she could. Trust and love went hand in hand for her.
“There’s nothing to talk about,
Margaret. We have waited five hundred years for you. We can keep you happy,
fulfilled in every way. You won’t miss this life at all.”
Margaret stamped her foot and moved
closer to Nathaniel, who stood close to the blazing fire now. He was the
reasonable one.
“Nathaniel, please, can’t you
understand? I finally have my life back. I have spent a decade nursing my
disgusting invalid husband. Why can’t I have another year or two as a human? It
would be nothing to you.”
Nathaniel looked over at Michael
then back at her. His eyes almost undid her. He looked so vulnerable, hurt.
“We can’t force you, Margaret, but
know this. Every second we are apart weighs on us. Hurts us. Tonight Michael and I felt complete for the first time in our entire existence.
Asking us to give that up now is impossible. It would destroy us.”
She groaned and ignored the guilt
creeping into her heart. Why was she
being so selfish?
No! Why didn’t they understand? She wasn’t asking them to
do without her at all. She just wanted to remain human. It wouldn’t be forever.
She just wanted a little more time.
“That’s the issue, Nathaniel. You
have already lived that long, and you want this. I didn’t even know you existed
until four days ago. Give me some time to assimilate and adjust. I’m not going
anywhere.”
Nathaniel moved over to sit on her
bed, their bed now. She had bought a
whole new bed suite after her husband had passed, and now she would never think
of it as any other way.
“What could you want more than us?”
Margaret flushed, in both anger and
embarrassment. She didn’t want more; she wanted both. Them and her old life.
“What we share is amazing,
Nathaniel, but you are asking me to give up my whole life for good sex.”
It hurt her to lie, but there it
was.
Nathaniel growled, and Michael moved
closer, laying a hand on his lover. How unusual, she had never seen Michael in
the calmer role before.
